How do you handle those teachable moments? Please take the time to read the posts in MckLinky in the sidebar. They’re wonderful. If you have your own blog, consider linking up and posting a Whrrl with your own teachable moments. I need all the tips I can get.

“but then, we had a huge fight, and the little one squeezed Jesus to an unbiblical and early death. We had to start over.”

LOL! Love the pictures and the last page. That is totally being played out in my house! The reality of sharing Christmas. So totally worth it. I will post some pictures. I just did some “art” with TJ, inspired by Ann’s earlier past this week.

Totally cracked me up. The unbiblical death, the alligators by the manger. :-)

The thing is, I am such an amateur when it comes to communicating with my kids about spiritual truth. I can talk up a storm with a grown-up, but I get tongue tied the minute it gets deep with my 5 yr old. My kids stump me on a regular basis. I’m stumbling through this….

Jo,

To ease your mind, we are amateurs also. There are some that seem to be professionals at this sharing the Spirit with their children work. Just this morning, Amber and I discuss how inept we are at the business of sharing with our children. We fumble and stumble also. And I think there is grace in that. I would love to hear how others are sharing with their children, even if it is full of stutter-starts and such. I need the encouragement, inspiration, and ideas.

Jo, me too. I feel so out of element.. I have led Advent in different settings for grown-ups, but when I tried it for the first time, I was way
out of league.

I was inspired to do Advent with child, Ann Voskamp style — I was blessed, but it came through bungling —

We have stuttered our way through plenty of conversations! For us, the key is to think about what I want their take-aways to be and word it as simply as possible. It sounds like you are already doing that! :)

One tool we have both found useful in helping guide us in those “teachable moments’ is the book Creative Correction by Lisa Whelchel. You’ve probably already heard of it or maybe even have it. Anyway, it does offer a plethera of discipline tools, but it also gives lots of good advice on how to approach an array of teachable moments.

God bless y’all and have a Merry Christmas!
