Over the next three weeks, we hope that you and your family will take time to explore the Christmas story—that magnificent story of incarnational giving. Follow along as we explore the characters of the story. Each came and brought a gift to Jesus. What will you come and bring Him this year?
Week 1
As a family, read Luke 2:8-14.
Discussion Topics and Creative Projects:
- 1. What did the angels come to bring men? What did the angels come to bring God?
- 2. How can we bring the message of Jesus to others during this Christmas season? Make a list.
- 3. How can we bring praise to God during this Christmas season? Make a list.
- 4. List your family’s favorite Christmas carols. Teach the words and tune to your children and discuss the meaning of the song. Visit an ailing or elderly family member and sing the song as a family. Afterwards, discuss how it felt to bring the story of the birth of Jesus to another.
Week 2
As a family, read Luke 2:15-20.
Discussion Topics and Creative Projects:
- 1. What did the shepherds do after they heard the good news brought by the angels, and how did they react?
- 2. After the shepherds saw the baby savior, where did they go and what did they do?
- 3. In what ways can we share the story of Jesus birth with others this Christmas? Make a list.
- 4. Have each family member create a piece of art showing the shepherds reaction to the good news. Another idea is to create a piece of art showing how you can share the good news of Jesus birth with others. Save the art for a ChristmasChange scrapbook.
Week 3
As a family, read Matthew 25:35-40.
Discussion Topics and Creative Projects:
- 1. What did he wise men bring to Jesus? Use the internet to research the gifts brought by the wise men, and discuss the value of each.
- 2. How can we bring extravagant gifts to Jesus? How can we bring any gifts to Jesus?
- 3. As a family, find a way to give an extravagant gift to Jesus this Christmas season. Maybe it’s giving to a particular charity or local family in need. After you give your family gift, discuss the impact of blessing Jesus by blessing others. Share your story with us by emailing it to christmaschangeblog@gmail.com.
